Inspiration
I think the most unusual thing about this film is it's inspiration. It's actually inspired by inspiration itself. I've not kept it particularly secret but once I completed my undergraduate degree I hit a depression that took me a long time to see the back of. I fought it like crazy but no matter how much work I threw myself into I didnt feel like the same creative person. Inspiration was missing and I worried every day about it coming back.
When I was in third year I wrote a script for a film (the one in the image below) where a grandad and a grandchild worked together to attempt to return the stars to a dying sky but when the grandfather passes away, his grandchild steps into his shoes. That sense of legacy was the core idea of the film.
When I found myself at the brink of needing to make another film the idea of legacy and this film returned to me and I though about the notion of being inspired by someone you know closely. Someone like family, or like a loved one. I picked the idea back up again for this project.
With other things I had seen recently or that I loved being rather prevelant in my mind during development such as the looney tunes and fool time job. Other things will always inspire me, like the damn moon. Silly beautiful rock, I'll never get enough of you. But with the 50th anniversary of the moon landing coming up I didnt hold back on writing another moon film. How could I?

But I'd be lying if I said that this was everything that inspired me because a lot of this film was spurred on by this amazing song.
I love this song and during the summer this year I attended a wedding where we sang this song for the bride and groom and I think it will now forever be entangled with memories of idolisation for someone you are close too. It's now synonymous with the idea of Woman of the moon and the lyrics certainly express the same sentiment.
Probably the most helpful listen, to hear someone else explain the exact thing you want to capture but in their words.
I love this song.

See AllMusic was always going to be a part of this film. It is after all a silent film. But I didnt always think sound design would be. I really...
